Cleaning

The Caravan Connection offers the full range of rug cleaning and repair services. We recommend weekly vacumning of your carpets to keep the dust from settling into the pile. In order to maintain the lanolin in the wool, we recommend that you have the carpets hand washed every four to five years unless they are in an extremely high traffic area.

For spot cleaning, ordinary club soda or a solution of white vinegar and water can be safely used and will remove most stains. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions concerning stain removal. We clean rugs on the premises and offer free pick up and delivery for homes in our area. Rugs can also be sent to us via UPS. Be sure to contact us first so we can give you instructions on how to do this.

Repair

We also offer repair services to increase the years of enjoyment of your rug! We will overcast the ends if the fringe starts to wear, refringe where necessary, repair the selvedge (the binding along the sides), even re-pile worn areas or repair holes! It is always best to attend to any small repairs before they become larger ones. However, even in cases where repair has been neglected, we have managed to rescue and extend the life of rugs headed for the dust bin! Let us examine your rug for a free estimate of any services it may require.

Padding

We always recommend the use of a pad under your oriental carpet to ensure a lifetime of enjoyment. The pad has the twofold job of keeping the rug from moving or buckling as well as to impede dirt from getting into the foundation of the carpet! We offer different pads for use over different surfaces. When ordering pad, please let us know if the pad will be used on wood flooring, tile, laminate, or broodloom. Since oriental carpets are hand-knotted and sizes are not uniform, you need to measure your carpet before you order the pad. Measure only the piled area of the carpet. Do not include the fringe. We will then custom cut the pad to fit under your carpet.

Please also let us know if the pad will be used in an entry hall where an exterior door may not be high enough to clear both rug and pad. We have alternative padding which we use only in this situation.

Stair Hardware

Due to the popularity of using oriental rugs as stair runners, we are pleased to offer a range of options of stair hardware to hold the runners in place. We offer brass rods which are custom cut to fit your stair as well as an assortment of brass finials. We also offer sets of brass clips which can used in place of the rods. The clips are sold in pairs and are a good choice for stairs that are more narrow and cannot handle the traditional rod and finial combination.
